I found the Spun Sugar Jewellery website on Pinterest. She posted a picture of the most amazing personalized cufflinks which she made and I contacted her to ask where I could order one of these. And after my order was placed she kept me very up-to-date about my order, even with some pictures! That was so good to see, and made me very excited to receive my cufflinks.
I can't believe it's been six years since my husband and I got married, and now we've reached our very own sugar anniversary! As i'm always making sugar anniverary presents for other people, I knew i had to make something for my husband. However, most of the gifts I make tend to be women's jewellery, so i had to come up with a new idea. Luckily he wears cufflinks, so I decided to make some sterling silver cufflinks, but with a new design to what i've made before.
I'm really inspired by bright pops of colour at the moment, and different textures, so I wanted to combine both. I'd recently got hold of an ImpressArt textured metal punch, so (once I'd cut out my shapes with a piercing saw) I used this to texture the metal with a criss-cross effect. I then shaped my pieces, soldered on bezels to hold my coloured sugar, soldered my cufflink backs on and polished with my dremel and some radial disks.
Finally, when all the silver work was finished, i added the resin and turquoise sugar to the bezel. Its important this is done right at the end, as any heat to the resin will damage it.
I'm really pleased with the end result, and i'm going to add more texture to my future pieces - what do you think?
P.s. In case you were wondering, yes my husband loved them too!
